WOEOTD: Raw Food Diet
March 21, 2008 on 9:46 pm | In Food, Media, Health, Weight Loss | No CommentsI am going to start featuring a different Way of Eating every few days. I am not promoting or criticizing any of these. I am instead going to present them without much commentary beyond a basic description.
The first Way of Eating of the Day is Raw Food. This is kinda like the Bones and Raw Food (BARF) diet that was all the rage for dogs recently…except without the bones.
Beautiful Plus Sized Bras
March 19, 2008 on 5:52 pm | In Fashion | No CommentsFinding sexy lingerie in larger sizes can be quite a struggle. I think the internet has made things a little bit easier, although you may occasionally get burned by companies that don’t deliver the quality that you expect or that have some undecipherable sizing scheme that apparently does not actually include you actual size. If you find an online company that provides you with what you want, cherish them.
If you haven’t found your lingerie shop yet, have a look at Marie Jo Bras. I just had a look and I have to say there is a pretty good selection. They have a full range of fine lingerie extending from the classics to edgier and more modern styles. This includes delicate laces, comfortable cottons and sexy silks.
Here is a tip that I learned, the ‘plus size’ models are usually not really plus size people. If a style makes their boobs look huge, it is probably not a good look for genuinely big girls. this goes for tops as well as undergarments.
There seems to be a bit of a door crasher at the moment with the online Marie Jo store. $10 thongs, get em while they last. Or don’t, thongs are not for everyone.
Fat Actress?
March 19, 2008 on 5:35 pm | In Media, Life, Diet, Health, Weight Loss | No CommentsIf you are sensitive to criticism, here is a dose of perspective for you. This video features Aishwarya Rai, who is considered by many to be the most beautiful woman in the World. She has recently been the subject of some very harsh criticism in the Indian media. This criticism is about her weight.
As an actress, she is asked to lose 10 or more pounds for movie roles on occasion. I think that is a reasonable request. Actors often take it upon themselves to gain or lose significant amounts of weight. I remember Tom Hanks looking lanky for Philadelphia and Castaway. Some actors and actresses gain weight on purpose for roles. George Clooney was supposedly thrown into a state of depression after he gained 30 pounds for a role.
Anyway, the Indian actress should not have to suffer the derision of the tabloids over a little bit of belly fat.
Watching the Watch Wearing Celebrities
March 18, 2008 on 9:57 pm | In Marketing, Life | No CommentsCelebrities like George Clooney and Brad Pitt get to endorse watches, really good ones. There is nothing Mickey mouse about a Seiko Watch or a TAG Heur.
I should really get a divers watch so I don’t have to remember to take it off when I do exciting and glamorous stuff like washing the dishes.
The funniest movie moment involving watches features Sean Penn and Billy Bob Thornton. Sean Penn is desperate to get out of town and his car is in Billy Bob’s repair shop. The repair bill is obscenely inflated and Sean offers to pay with his Rolex because he just wants to get away (from J Lo, who wouldn’t?)… Anyway, Billy-Bob looks at the watch for a moment and then complains that it doesn’t have any numbers on it. He then points to the watch that he already has that it black and includes a full function calculator. I am torn as to which watch I would prefer.
Is Weight Loss Antisocial?
March 18, 2008 on 9:22 pm | In Weight Loss | No CommentsI found an interesting weight loss blog by a guy named Dan Nied. The entry in Dan Nied’s Fortress of Weight Loss that caught my attention postulated that you can’t maintain a typical social life and lose weight.
I don’t know if this is true. I think the accuracy of his theory depends on what any one person perceives as normal. To me ballroom dancing is not normal. If it was normal, it would burn a lot of calories. I’m just sayin’
Bucking The System
March 18, 2008 on 9:03 pm | In Life | No Comments
I think that the best value in a Las Vegas vacation is one that is planned around an event. This is especially true if you manage to avoid gambling. Gambling is for losers. If I was to go to Las Vegas, I would not drop one nickel on the casinos. I am obtuse like that.
I would consider getting National Final Rodeo tickets. I am ostensibly anonymous on this blog and I might be giving myself away if I admit to having ridden a steer before. I didn’t make it to the buzzer. I stayed on my feet. There is no prize for staying on your feet.
I think that anyone who is considering a trip to Las Vegas should do a careful internet search to see what events may be coinciding with their trip. I was at a conference thing in the Western US a few years ago and by sheer coincidence one of my favorite bands, the Cowboy Junkies, were playing at the same resort. I was indecisive about playing hooky from my conference and when I finally made up my mind to go to the wicket they were sold out. Actually that’s not quite right. I went early in the morning and there was nobody at the wicket. When I checked later on in the early afternoon there were no tickets.
A Very Public Weight Loss Journey
March 18, 2008 on 8:33 pm | In Diet, Media, Blogging, Exercise, Internet, Technology, Weight Loss | No CommentsI was checking out YouTube for anything related to Kimkins just now. There wasn’t anything new on that front. I noticed that the surveillance video of Heidi has surpassed 10,000 views without any fanfare.
A few diet vLoggers have started adding kimkins as a keyword to unrelated videos, which is fine. This is how I discovered YvesMetamorphosis. Her weight loss journey is not a remarkable success or failure. She is not selling anything. What makes her channel worth mentioning is just the fact that it is a very public accounting of her 10 week effort. I wish her well.
If you can’t say anything nice…
March 18, 2008 on 8:16 pm | In Diet | No CommentsSome of the recipes on the Kimkins website seem like they might be pretty good. Leek & Mushroom Soup with Spinach sounds quite nutritious.
I am more familiar with leek and potato soup, which would be verboten for those following a strict low carb diet. If you find a soup recipe that works for your diet, be sure to keep track of your sodium intake as some recipes are on the high side. I think spinach it a great food to experiment with.
Great Priced Furniture
March 18, 2008 on 7:53 pm | In Decor | No CommentsI just finished reading a great guide to buying home office furniture. It was on a retail furniture site called Great Priced Furniture. We have ended up with a mismatched bunch of computer desks and task chairs in out household. We did exactly what the article says people do, we over-economized when we were first buying office furniture. At least we are able to hand down our cheapest desks to the kids. We have had to wheel a few really cheap task chairs out to the garage.
Great Priced Furniture has a very wide range of office chairs. My suggestion to anyone buying office furniture for the first time is to get stuff that is just a little bit better than you think you deserve.
Blogging About Kimkins
March 18, 2008 on 7:03 pm | In Blogging, Kimkins | No CommentsI haven’t been very active with my anti-kimkins blogging efforts lately. I think that giving a nod to the people who are still in the thick of things is the least that I can do to keep those search engine pages fair and balanced.
BamaGal is pretty busy over at Kimkins Scam. If you visit her site, be forewarned that there is a leprechaun shaking his naked butt on one of her March posts.
On a more serious note, Becky has recently published an Official Update on the Kimkins Case from John Tiedt.
