LifeSize Video Conferencing
May 2, 2008 on 4:55 pm | In Tools, Technology, Business | No CommentsA video conference system can be useful for many businesses and organizations. I think one reason that the technology is underutilized is the fact that the first generations of this technology left a lot to be desired. I am helping to get the word out that video conferencing has been improved dramatically in recent years.
LifeSize Room now allows as many as six people to connect in high definition. Participants can exchange video clips and other multimedia in crystal clear high definition. This allows for creative ideas to be heard and seen in intricate detail.
A Very Public Weight Loss Journey
March 18, 2008 on 8:33 pm | In Diet, Media, Blogging, Exercise, Internet, Technology, Weight Loss | No CommentsI was checking out YouTube for anything related to Kimkins just now. There wasn’t anything new on that front. I noticed that the surveillance video of Heidi has surpassed 10,000 views without any fanfare.
A few diet vLoggers have started adding kimkins as a keyword to unrelated videos, which is fine. This is how I discovered YvesMetamorphosis. Her weight loss journey is not a remarkable success or failure. She is not selling anything. What makes her channel worth mentioning is just the fact that it is a very public accounting of her 10 week effort. I wish her well.
Get ISP Info at GetISP.info
February 8, 2008 on 9:54 pm | In Technology | No CommentsISP stand for Internet Service Provider. I can vividly remember the days when I had a choice between the phone company and, well, nothing. Now you can get high speed broadband connections from your cable company and DSL from several different providers. The combination of competition and technological advancements has been very good to us. Satellite Internet is quickly becoming a viable option for many consumers as well. If you heard bad things about the reliability of satellite internet in the past, you should take a fresh look at it. The capacity has been much improved. I used to live in a rural area where there was no high speed option. the woman to whom I sold the property ended up getting satellite internet and she is happy with it.
According to GetISP.info, many of us have access to all three of these plus the cheaper but less useful option of dialup. I can imagine that it is hard for many of us to choose the best option. If you watch cable television, you will probably get bombarded with adds for the cable internet service that they themselves provide. You probably see offers for DSL inside your phone bill envelope. It’s a wonder that they don’t have some astronaut dropping ISP leaflets down on our heads from up in a satellite. I guess they would probably burn up on re-entry.
GetISP.info puts all the best ISP deals together in one place to help you decide.
iPhone Unlocking
February 6, 2008 on 8:24 pm | In Technology | No CommentsiNever got all that excited about the iPhone to be honest. I was a late adopter of cell phone technology. I didn’t get one until it became a practical necessity about three years ago. By then, there was affordable pay as you go, which is what I have relied on. When I heard that iPhones would require buyers to enter into a restrictive and expensive contract with an exclusive provider, any enthusiasm that I had for the must have item flew out the window.
Now that iPhoneUnlockUK.com and other iPhone Unlock sites have cropped up to emancipate iPhone users, it might be time for a fresh look at the iPhone.
Remote Data Backup
January 21, 2008 on 9:04 am | In Technology, Business | No CommentsSecure and reliable remote data backup is the bread and butter of FastTeks.com but that is not the only thing that they do. The meat and potatoes of their business model are onsite computer technicians. The technicians at your local FastTeks franchise are highly trained and also they have had extensive background checks. This is important especially for people who run a business out of their home.
Network Forensic Search Engine
January 17, 2008 on 10:56 am | In Technology | 1 Comment
Pictured here is the Los Alamos National Laboratory. This is where much of the creation and testing of this new Network Forensic Search Engine has taken place. There is now a real time netflow security product that is available for free download from Packet Analytics. I had to do a little reading before I grasped what all this is about, but it makes sense to me now. Searchability is a powerful element to add to any data stream. The search function on Gmail has saved my butt many times over. When you can create searchability that allows you to dig deep into your network security alerts, you can solve problems and avert catastrophe much more efficiently.

International Calling Cards
January 13, 2008 on 1:59 pm | In Technology, Travel | 1 CommentPinShark.com is a website that markets hundreds of different international calling cards. I can speak from experience when I say that these calling cards can be a major convenience if you happen to be traveling somewhere that provides a wealth of inconvenience. Purchasing PINs online before you travel to an exotic local might be a very wise move. Typical tourist locations will have shops that sell actual calling cards, but you can expect to pay a premium for them. I did just that a few years ago when we had come to a place expecting to stay for a month and the phone that we had expected to have in our rented accommodation was not activated for over a week. I am glad that PinShark.com has a page with helpful hints on choosing a card, considering the fact that they sell 850 different cards. Typical savings are as much as 80%.
Subliminal Messages
January 8, 2008 on 11:10 am | In Life, Technology, Health, Weight Loss | 1 CommentDo you think that a audio CD that contains subliminal messages can help you quit smoking or lose weight? The products at http://www.subliminal-audio.com/ are reported to have a 96% success rate. They don’t just work for positive changes for your health, there are also cds that are designed to boost self confidence.
The weight loss recording sounds like this (this is a link to the affirmations that you actually hear, there are no subliminal messages in this MP3). The actual cd incorporates the 4-part Encoding Systemâ„¢
The separate parts influence physiology and behavior and the combined effect of using all four accounts for the success of this series of recordings. CD-length binaural beat backing track, whisper subliminals, reverse messages, and stereo confusion are combined on these recordings. All items sold by this site come with a money back guarantee. Corporations like Microsoft and UPS are clients of this company. The US Army is also a customer.
‘Woman Savers’ Site is Flawed but Potentially Useful
January 7, 2008 on 5:04 pm | In Life, Technology, Internet, Business | 1 CommentIn case you didn’t know it, there are websites that host user generated databases of people, mostly men, who behave badly in relation to intimate relationships. The worst flaw that I can see with these sites is that abusive men may deduce who has created a profile for them and coerce them into deleting it. The owners of WomanSaver.com site charge users $25 to delete a profile.
I am not saying that this kind of site shouldn’t exist. They are probably somewhat useful in hindering the criminal behavior of men who troll the internet for victims, although there as well as in real life, aliases are a quick fix for a bad reputation
Neat iPhone Accessories
December 28, 2007 on 8:20 pm | In Technology | 1 CommentI just saw a thread on a forum that I frequent asking people if there blogs looked good on an iPhone screen. I have no idea about mine. I haven’t done anything special with the template, so it might be a mess on the small screen of a hand held device. If anyone is ever looking at this blog using an iPhone, please let me know if it is readable.
Were you lucky enough to unwrap an iPhone this Christmas? Congratulations (you lucky #$%^$*).
You should consider wrapping it back up with an invisible protective coating from pdostore.com. They sell some great iphone accessories. Besides the unique and durable protective body shields, they also have well designed and stylish holsters and arm bands. If I had an iPhone, I would probably treat it very gently. My choice for an accessory would be the premium leather case from pdostore.com. I dropped my cheap phone on the floor earlier this year and it popped apart. A leather case would have prevented that.
