More About Cleansing…

There’s something that I didn’t get into when I was critiquing the sunshine enema of a fluff news piece about Isagenix. They do not allude in any way to what the stuff actually does. Cleansing involves a lot of pooping. That is not hinted at even once. Maybe Disney Corporation likes to pretend that pooping doesn’t exist due to the fact that Donald Duck is walking around with no pants on. I had a pet duck once. Ducks poop.

When TV News Makes Nice

Isagenix is a cleansing product that is marketed by a company based in Chandler, Arizona.

You would get whiplash if you were to watch this video of ABC and its coverage of the product right after watching KTLA’s coverage of the Kimkins fraud. I am not disparaging Isagenix. I am sure they have all their ducks in a row as far as the FDA and the FTC are concerned. I do get the impression that the consumer report is really a sales pitch. If the three people on the video like to think of themselves as journalists, they must stop off somewhere after work for a few ounces of soul cleanser. The tone of the anchor man is the same tone that Ryan Seacrest uses when he says something heterosexual.

The television footage was uploaded by what appears to be an affiliate for the product.

Skin Care From Skin Dimension Online

January 11, 2008 on 8:22 pm | In Health | 1 Comment

Skin Dimension Online is a full service facial skin care website. They feature top brand skin care products and they also have sub-pages devoted to various types of problem skin. If you are sick of suffering from sticker shock when you shop for cosmetics, they also have a feature on the sidebar that allows you to browse through your choice of price ranges. I think this is a great feature.

I just clicked on the highest price range and I am tempted to digress into some kind of social commentary becasue the most expensive products happen to be anti-aging treatments.

This eStore is actually an extension of a well branded and popular day spa. Skin Dimensions Day Spa. If you are curious about retinol, they have an introductory line.

Blogging is Not a Hate Free Workplace

The Fat Acceptance movement is somewhat controversial. I haven’t followed enough of Joy Nash’s work to know what her views are on activism. Her famous Rant is really more about her own personal resolution to accept being fat and to not use it as an excuse for not living a happy life. She drew some very negative comments with her recent blog activity from someone who is on the warpath with regard to fat acceptance. I commend Joy for leaving the comment on her blog even though it crossed some lines as far as being personally insulting. The comment was illuminating if not pleasant.

While the obesity of one particular woman was central to the Kimkins Fraud, commentary after the PI pictures were published crossed quite a few lines. LOL Cat-like humor created using the ass of a fraudulent fellow human being may be quite funny, but it is also kinda wrong.

Can You Lose Weight Through Self Hypnosis?

January 10, 2008 on 2:46 pm | In Life, Exercise, Health, Weight Loss | 1 Comment

I read a fascinating article the other day about a scientific experiment. Basically the scientists surveyed a large group of hotel maids to determine what their impressions were with regard to how much exercise was involved in their work. The impressions were surprisingly inaccurate.

Phase two involved studying a control group and a group that had been given an informational session related to their physical activity. They were told how many calories were burned by various tasks, what the effects were on their cardiovascular fitness, etc.

The experimenters eventually got a bunch of data and concluded that the maids who were more conscious about the exercise benefits actually were healthier. The mind is so powerful, it’s kinda freaky.

Using self hypnosis to help you make positive changes in your life is a bit similar to this effect. The website at http://www.instant-hypnosis.com sells downloads of some very specific hypnosis sessions. One that interested me was called Crave Healthy Foods. Some people respond very strongly to hypnotic suggestion and others don’t. Luckily, these downloads come with a money back guarantee.

Fat Loss For Idiots ?

January 9, 2008 on 2:54 pm | In Life, Marketing, Diet, Exercise, Health, Internet, Weight Loss | 2 Comments

I have been seeing promotion for FatLoss4Idiots.com all over the Internet.

The copy on the about page for this website is critical of low carb dieting. It is not very clear what exactly they are selling. At one point they call it the future of smart weight loss.

Why market smart weight loss to idiots? The company that owns the site, Internet Made Simple, is associated with Clickbank. Selling stuff to idiots is what they do. The information in the weight loss eBook may be useful, but I am not going to buy it to find out.

Would You Like Some Loaves or Fishes With That Soup?

January 9, 2008 on 10:31 am | In Diet, Health | 1 Comment

I just finished reading the results of a very strange experiment. Some scientists recently served a test group some soup in bowls that were being secretly refilled as they ate. This group ate 73% more than the control group. Even more interesting than this difference is the fact that most of them did not believe that they had eaten as much as they did.

What can we learn from this? Well, I think it is a good argument for carefully measured portion control for those of us who want to lose weight. The broad conclusion is that we rely on visual cues more than actual physiological cues of satiety.

Memory Foam Mattresses

January 8, 2008 on 9:43 pm | In Health | 1 Comment

I have joked before that the greatest achievement of NASA is not the moon landing or the space station, but rather the memory mattress. Tempurpedic mattress technology has a space age pedigree. The high density foam has unique characteristics that reduced the stress on astronauts bodies when they were under intense G forces during launches.

The cost of this space-aged material has come down to Earth in recent years and more and more people are enjoying mattresses made out of the stuff. They can be especially useful for palliative care and for people with back problems. When comparing the cost of mattresses, you have to keep in mind the fact that memory foam mattresses typically last longer than conventional types.

The memory foam mattresses available from AngelBeds.com are American made. Right now most models are on sale at this site. You can save hundreds of dollars. This is another eStore that is featuring a deferred payment plan. If you qualify, you could get a mattress and not have to pay until 2009.

This store also has memory foam pillows. If you are not ready to make a big investment in a high quality mattress, you could get one of these $79 pillows. Avoiding one or two neck spasms would make that pillow pay for itself.

Old Spice Girls Story

I mostly ignore the whole celebrity diet endorsement realm, but I thought this tiny controversy was amusing. Emma Bunton, AKA Baby Spice went low carb in between giving birth to her adorable bay and hitting the stage with her old bandmates. The controversy stemmed from her endorsement deal with a pasta sauce company. It was easy to sidestep. Pasta sauce is not pasta. It gave the British tabloids something to write about on a slow news day.

The endorsed brand was Prego. They have a lot of sugar in many of their sauces.

Subliminal Messages

Do you think that a audio CD that contains subliminal messages can help you quit smoking or lose weight? The products at http://www.subliminal-audio.com/ are reported to have a 96% success rate. They don’t just work for positive changes for your health, there are also cds that are designed to boost self confidence.

The weight loss recording sounds like this (this is a link to the affirmations that you actually hear, there are no subliminal messages in this MP3). The actual cd incorporates the 4-part Encoding Systemâ„¢

The separate parts influence physiology and behavior and the combined effect of using all four accounts for the success of this series of recordings. CD-length binaural beat backing track, whisper subliminals, reverse messages, and stereo confusion are combined on these recordings. All items sold by this site come with a money back guarantee. Corporations like Microsoft and UPS are clients of this company. The US Army is also a customer.
