I Can Spot Homeschoolers From a Mile Away

February 8, 2008 on 10:28 pm | In Life |

Seriously, a lot of kids that get home schooled do end up noticeably different from their age cohorts that are attending public schools. That is a good thing ion most cases. I can’t pick out a home schooling parent as easily. The results of home schooling may have some commonality, but the reasons for embarking on the home schooling journey are quite varied.

Some parents want to be free to provide an education that is in line with their religious beliefs. Some parents want to be free to travel with their kids and educate them at the same time. I home schooled two children for about 4 months once and I found it to be an unsatisfactory arrangement. They though it sucked. I had some experience working in an educational setting and I thought I could do a good job on the fly with the resources on the Internet and at the library. It was a project based curriculum. In retrospect, I should have considered some structured resources like the ones provided by The Grace Academy. Trained professionals from this organization can get parents on the right track with their home schooling efforts. They have a statement of faith on their website. It is a Christian organization.
