Anti-Kimkins Blogs of Note: Kimorexia

January 26, 2008 on 10:26 pm | In Health, Blogging, Diet, Weight Loss, Eating Disorders, Kimkins Criticism, Kimkins, Kimkins Diet | 2 Comments

Let me put this in the simplest of terms. Heidi Diaz did some smart branding with the Kimkins Experiment. Now that we know she was not actually subjecting herself to this experiment, you have to question the methodology and the conclusions as well as the validity of the results. You have to wonder about the people who swallowed the kool-aid and said Kimmer lied, but the diet is not a lie.

Kimorexia delivers the ‘information, revelation, references, quotes, debates and more concerning the “Kimkins” crash-diet and/or its advice’ that it promises. Using information to combat the disinformation about diet and health over at Kimkins is a recurring theme. There are also a lot of outgoing links to interesting corners of the Anti-Kimkins community/cause.

Check Out Orlando

January 26, 2008 on 6:59 pm | In Travel | No Comments

The opportunity for low cost air travel has been spurring a resurgence in tourism throughout much of the World. Imagine being a family in England and being able to book a cheap flight to Orlando.

You could take your little tykes on this horrifying ride at the MGM amusement park…

If vertigo and other forms of nausea aren’t their cup of tea, you can take them to see Shamu, the killer whale/orca…

Orlando is not a beach town, but it’s only a short trip to New Smyrna Beach.

Using a service like DialAFlight.com can take a lot of the hassle and expense out of your family holiday.

Is Kimkins a Cult?

January 26, 2008 on 1:48 pm | In Health, Diet, Weight Loss, Kimkins Experiences, Heidi Diaz, Kimkins, Kimkins Diet | 2 Comments

We generally associate the word cult with religion, but the definition is actually broader than that. Wikipedia describes a cult as a cohesive social group devoted to beliefs or practices that the surrounding culture considers outside the mainstream. So, yeah, I think you could argue that Kimkins is a cult.

I think the one saving grace with Kimkins is that its devotees are not in the physical care and control of their leader. I recently read some anecdotal information from an anti-kimkins blogger who knows some people who are still following Kimkins. The impression I got was the some Kimkins defenders who argue that it is a safe and viable diet actually cheat regularly on their diet.

Philidelphia Lawyer

Woody Guthrie wrote a song about a Philidelphia lawyer. Tom Hanks won an Oscar for his portayal of a Philidelphia lawyer. I am writing a post about a Philidelphia lawyer.

MWSDLegal.com is a site maintained by a group of personal injury lawyers in PA. I was pleased to see that their landing page reads more like a legal argument and less like an online sales letter. The important things worth noting are that they work on contingency and they are very competent and experienced with regard to advising a client upon receipt of a settlement offer. Kevin Weinstein and Christopher Moyer both have impressive credentials.

Success and Frustration

I came stumbled upon an interesting weight loss story today. First off, let me direct you to a page that converts ’stone’, a ridiculous and archaic measure of weight, into pounds, a somewhat less ridiculous and archaic measure of weight.

Stone to Pounds

That will help when you read the dramatic weight loss story. The sad part is that the man who lost so much weight cannot afford plastic surgery and he has an arguably debilitating amount of loose flapping skin. His mother sold her house to pay for his gastric bypass surgery. He would probably be dead now had he stayed at his astoundingly large size.

Beautiful Grandfather Clocks

January 25, 2008 on 8:26 pm | In Life | No Comments

The Grandfather Clocks from my childhood are still fresh in my memory. I can actually remember the sound more clearly than I can remember the appearance.

clock.JPGIt would seem that the floor model clocks with glass covering the pendulum case are designed to hypnotize curious children. The sweep of a pendulum that marks each second is like quiet music. The anticipated chimes that arrive to announce hour are not quite so quiet.

I had a particular style of grandfather clock in my mind’s eye as I was writing this post. When I visited GrandfatherClocksBlog.com, I noticed that there are a many different shapes of grandfather clocks. I prefer the ones with ornate woodworking.

I was always a very curious child, so it was a good thing that my family didn’t have any grandfather clocks. I would have taken them apart. I took apart three wind up alarm clocks, five AM radios and a typewriter before I was 14.

People like me are most likely the reason why there is such a demand for Howard Miller grandfather clocks. This spectacular Howard Miller Grandfather Clock has a cabinet that locks. Curiousity seems to have a genetic component, so I plan keep my clock locked at all times. Determination is also inherited, so I had better keep my tools locked up too.

While I am on the subject of tools and children and heavy floor model clocks, I should advise you to attach your clock to a wall with a proper bracket if there are children in your home.

Anti-Kimkins Blogs of Note: Slamboard

January 25, 2008 on 6:18 pm | In Internet, Business, Kimkins Criticism, Kimkins Fraud, Kimmer | 2 Comments

Slamboard definitely deserves a mention in this series of posts on anti-Kimkins. The photographs of an obese Heidi Diaz were published there first. These photos were taken by PI Robert Charlton of Alliance Investigative Services.

The focus of Slamboard has shifted away from the Kimkins Controversy lately, but the older posts are a great resource for everyone with an interest in the story. There are now lots of vocal detractors with inside information because most of the former insiders fled when they realized or suspected the truth… or they got kicked out for asking questions. Slamboard posts all comments that are not spam. There are several comments from Kimmer’s defenders and they make for an interesting read.

WebHostingChoice.com

January 25, 2008 on 12:45 pm | In Internet | No Comments

If you are having a hard time making a web hosting choice, WebHostingChoice.com can help. The site is a searchable directory of hosts. I like their quick search function. You just type in the maximum fees that you want to pay and the space and bandwidth that you require and you get a comprehensive list at the click of a button. The site works really well and I have no problem recommending it, but I should point out that they always recommend Host Gator. Host Gator is a good host and it is probably the best choice for most people. I just don’t want you to think that the recommendation is based on the values that you put into the search query.

Vegan Athletes

January 25, 2008 on 12:27 pm | In Diet, Health | No Comments

People who are undergoing rigorous physical training have a much higher protein requirement than moderately active people. I just finished reading an article that profiles an NFL player who made a decision to go Vegan. Conventional training involves eating a lot of meat, fish and dairy as part of a balanced diet. Critics of vegan diets question whether an athlete can be competitive when these foods are off the table. Research shows that a vegan diet that is designed carefully and followed correctly can meet the needs of athletes and not impair their performance. There is no solid evidence that they can improve their performance by going vegan.

Tony Gonzalez was concerned about his longterm health. He heard about The China Study from a stranger on a plane and tried going vegan prior to the beginning of his training season. He was discouraged when he found that he had perceptibly lost some strength and also 10lbs. Rather than give up on his new diet he got advice from a few experts and ended up breaking records during the NFL season. His wife didn’t think he could do a whole season without any cheeseburgers.

Easy-Poll.com has a New Product

January 24, 2008 on 9:21 pm | In Blogging, Internet | No Comments

counters.JPGFREE is a powerful word on the internet. Web counters have been available ever since before I had internet access. They were always pretty basic. Easy-Poll.com has a selection of design options so you can have a free counter that matches the look of your blog or website. The image at the left are examples from the site. My experience with this site is that they have relatively basic products that work the way you expect them to. There seems to be some minor glitch where text links to casinos show up on your polls even though they expressly state that this won’t happen. Here is the code that I was given to copy and paste:

The page that had the code on it clearly states that the counter has “No banners and visible advertising !”
