Beautiful Grandfather Clocks

The Grandfather Clocks from my childhood are still fresh in my memory. I can actually remember the sound more clearly than I can remember the appearance.

It would seem that the floor model clocks with glass covering the pendulum case are designed to hypnotize curious children. The sweep of a pendulum that marks each second is like quiet music. The anticipated chimes that arrive to announce hour are not quite so quiet.

I had a particular style of grandfather clock in my mind’s eye as I was writing this post. When I visited GrandfatherClocksBlog.com, I noticed that there are a many different shapes of grandfather clocks. I prefer the ones with ornate woodworking.

I was always a very curious child, so it was a good thing that my family didn’t have any grandfather clocks. I would have taken them apart. I took apart three wind up alarm clocks, five AM radios and a typewriter before I was 14.
