Unbiased, a Definition

January 31, 2008 on 11:50 pm | In Money, Blogging, Marketing, Business, Kimkins Affiliates, Kimkins Fraud, Kimkins Criticism, Kimkins, Kimkins Diet | 2 Comments

Most people with a reasonable amount of education and experienced already know what unbiased means. I am not claiming to be unbiased. If you were to Google the word ‘Kimkins’ you would see the word unbiased, which means free from favoritism or self-interest, describing Kimkins Review, the affiliate that to this date still publishes the fraudulent 198lb weight loss claim made by Heidi Diaz.

I think that affiliates have an undeniable self-interest. I have no problem with the concept of affiliate marketing, but those who do it well don’t lie. The best way to sell something is to actually believe that it is a good product and that your readers will benefit from buying it. I think many of us could name a small handful of people who put their names behind Kimkins when they believed that she was an actual weight loss success and then quickly put Kimkins behind them when they found out (or in some cases strongly suspected) the truth.

Drive South with the One You Love

I read about some really nasty weather in the USA today. I hope all of my readers are safe and warm.

If you have retirement income or maybe you have figured out a way to make money online, you may think a little harder about heading south when the snow starts piling up. Grab an extra blanket and spend some time perusing these Panama Real Estate Listings. Panama is negotiating a free trade agreement with the USA. The real estate market is booming, so homes can potentially be a lucrative investment. Oh, and it’s warm there. Chicago does not have a style of short pants named after it. Oh wait, that’s Bermuda. Panama has a hat.

The Biggest Winner

Belated congratulations go out to Tracie, the 2007 winner of YouTube’s Weight Loss Challenge.

This year, contestants have a weekly chance at winning a new video camera. The Diet.com Video Weight Loss Challenge starts soon. It’s interesting to see how many success stories happen with a community that is weighted more towards support and inspiration than it is towards focused strategies. It could be that it is just a numbers game.

Organic Valentine’s Chocolate

January 31, 2008 on 3:03 pm | In Life, Diet | 1 Comment

I expect that there are a few dieters that take a day off for Valentine’s. If you are a mostly recovered chocaholic who is planning to jump off the wagon and then jump right back on, I would advise you to enjoy some really good chocolate, like this Organic Valentine’s Chocolate from KatesCaringGifts.com.

If you want to go as low carb as possible and still indulge, I think that coffee beans covered in dark chocolate might be the best option. The Chocolate Covered Coffee Beans from this store are Fair Trade and Organic. They do have sugar in the ingredient list.

Subverting Prejudice For Fun and Profit

January 31, 2008 on 2:48 pm | In Internet, Business | 1 Comment

This is going to be a very vague post. This post is a commentary on a disturbing trend where people try to use hatred and prejudice as a marketing tool. I do not want to give the campaign the attention that it is designed to garner. If you are in the South West of America, you may have seen or heard part of the campaign. The most insidious part of the campaign is that they have a mole working away at generating protests against their business.

A blogging term that got overused a lot in 2007 was link bait. Often, people would purposely post an offensive opinion that they may not even agree with, just so offended people would link to them. The marketing that I recently became apprised of has an offline element of this same rationale. It is so frustrating to talk about it without being specific, but I dislike it so much that I am going to hold out.

An Awesome Wide Receiver

January 30, 2008 on 8:52 pm | In Life | No Comments

If you ask a casual fan to name a Denver Broncos player, the odds are that they will mention a quarterback. They say that there is no I in TEAM. There is no QB in TEAM either.

Having skilled and talented players in positions like wide receiver are vital for the success of a team.

Brandon Marshall is 6’ 4” and 230. Defensive backs on opposing teams have a very hard time tackling this Denver Bronco. Yards after contact is a statistic by which wide receivers are judged and Marshall’s numbers are impressive. But numbers are boring. Watching a guy push past one tackle attempt after another to make a 70 yard touchdown is not boring.

Anti-Kimkins Blogs of Note: Jimmy

January 30, 2008 on 7:54 pm | In Business, Weight Loss, Internet, Blogging, Diet, Kimkins Affiliates, Kimkins, Kimmer, Heidi Diaz, Kimkins Fraud, Jimmy Moore, Kimkins Diet | No Comments

I’m guessing that about 0.2% of the people that end up reading my title will react by thinking to themselves Jimmy who?

Jimmy is a low carb weight loss success story who went on to become a pro blogger and the host of a vibrant free low carb community. He has a lot of personality.

Jimmy spent months as a Kimkins affiliate and drew harsh criticism for a part of that time. His audio interview with Kimmer (who at that time was not admitting to her identity as Heidi Diaz) was a defining moment of this saga. I think you can pinpoint the moment when he stopped giving Kimmer the benefit of the doubt. He asked her if the picture of the woman in the red dress was, in fact, her. She said it was, in a tone of voice very much like the one that Heidi Diaz would later use to say No Comment to Chip Yost. The popularity of the audio interview with Jimmy Moore meant that thousands of people had absolutely no doubt that Heidi Diaz was Kimmer as soon as she spoke on camera. Surprisingly, Kimmer continued to deny being Heidi Diaz for some time after that.

Between a Rock and Hard Cash

I am not going to try to blow smoke up anyone’s butt with regard to lending practices. For the most part, banks and credit card companies will figuratively beat a path to your door as long as you look good on paper and make all your payments on time. If, however, you have hit a rough patch or two, you may have to look for loans high and low. By high I mean the interest…and by low I mean your chances of approval.

I think the Internet has helped consumers overall with regard to finding their best options for secured loans and other lending products. If you compare credit cards on a site like BeatThatQuote.com you are seeing terms that are offered by lenders who are in direct head to head competition with each other. You do have to read the terms of each offer VERY carefully. Loan marketing is getting to be a bit like car sales. The companies are trying to get consumers to focus on the one number that they are competitive with, while sneaking in various charges and limitations in the small print. The internet can make comparing loans quick and simple, but in the end, you have to look closely to avoid paying more than you expected in interest and fees.

Eat Your Vegetables

I am curious as to whether anyone has published any succinct advice for people who are transitioning from the Kimkins WOE to something better. I know that Jimmy Moore repeatedly welcomed all comers to his free forum and I suspect that there is a lot of detailed discussing about tweaking diets there.

I am not a dietitian or even an experienced dieter. The best advice I can offer is that vegetables are our friends. About.com has a convenient list of vegetables in listed in order of carb count. I know that it is the middle of the winter in the northern hemisphere now, so price and quality aren’t optimal for some of the better vegetables. I would suggest that you take a relatively long ‘wish list’ to the grocery store and take home what is of good quality and a reasonable price.

How to Have a Sexually Satisfying Marriage

January 29, 2008 on 8:28 pm | In Life | 2 Comments

I can give one simple tip on maintaining a sexually satisfying marriage. Work things out in such a way that you are going to bed together every night. Paul and Linda McCartney spend virtually every single night together. I feel sorry for Paul and his post Linda missteps, but he had been getting it right for decades.

IgniteHerPassion.com is an interesting read, although I don’t agree wholeheartedly with some of the ideas conveyed by its author. That is probably due in large part to the biblical basis of some of the relationship advice contained on the website. I was exposed to Christianity as a child and I embraced it. Eventually I fell away, and this was really the result of an accumulation of details that I did not agree with. One of these details is contained in a letter written by the Apostle Peter or rather by his secretary in which he describes women as the weaker sex.

I am broad-minded and I can see that many devote Christian couples have very happy and very loving relationships. Basing an effort to improve your sex life based on Christian principles might be a good idea.
