Free and Legal Christmas Music I : Boy Bands Singing About Virgins
December 21, 2007 on 7:30 pm | In Christmas | 1 CommentI am going to take a break from the usual topics on this blog for a few days. One thing that I will be posting is Christmas music. This version of Silent Night is by some boy band that is signed to Universal. Universal and Sony both put a lot of free content up on YouTube. Most of the current music has embedding disabled.
There are quite a few versions of Silent Night that I like better. I prefer to hear all the verses because the song has a definite narrative.
Tyson Foods’ Charitable Donation of Quality Protein
December 21, 2007 on 3:40 pm | In Uncategorized | No Comments$3 million and 49.1 million pounds of chicken, beef and pork products is nothing to sneeze at. That is how much cash and product has gone from Tyson Foods to more than 600 hunger-relief agencies nationwide since 2000. Donations of good quality high protein foods to food banks are a great idea. I have to confess that when I dropped a few items in the box at the supermarket in the past, they were very often high carb boxed items. That kind of personal donation has to be non-perishable, so the options are kind of limited. If anybody has a good idea for a non-perishable low carb item that would help food banks, please leave a comment. I know tuna and peanut butter would be appreciated.
Taking Care of Business
December 21, 2007 on 3:24 pm | In Employment | No CommentsDisregard the obvious reference to one of the most enduring songs in rock history, music careers are not as easy as fishin’.
Artistshousemusic.com aims to serve as a guide to people who want to make a life’s work in music. One of the key elements of the site is a series of interviews with very successful people in the music industry. I don’t think they have talked to Randy Bachman yet, but they have spoken the Randy Newman. Careers in music are not only for performers. Promotions, production, management and many other fields are lucrative options in the music industry. There was a time when I was hoping to have a career that involved nothing but thinking up really cool names for bands. Unfortunately, most record labels let bands think up their own names.
Using Restraint at Holiday Feasts
December 21, 2007 on 3:07 pm | In Uncategorized | No CommentsI just participated in a little bit of excessive eating as part of our last day at work before the holiday. Right now, I am wishing that I hadn’t. I am not actually trying to lose weight at the moment, so it’s not the calories that are bothering me so much as the shear volume. Part of my excess was due to peer pressure and part of it was just because there was so much good food in front of me. I think I need to start excusing myself from an item or two during these social events. I need to make a commitment to myself that I am going to do this. I will feel much better afterwards. Why did she have to make tiramisu ?
All I Want For Christmas
December 21, 2007 on 2:10 pm | In Christmas, Blogging | No CommentsThe domain controversy.com is available for the low price of $75,000
If someone were to buy it for me, I would use it as the address of a blog that would cover a wide range of controversies. I know it is expensive, maybe you could all pitch in on it.*
*I am just kidding. I wish all my readers a Happy New Year.
When You Have an Accident, You May Need a Lawyer
December 20, 2007 on 6:24 pm | In Uncategorized | No CommentsLawyers tend to specialize. It takes a unique set of skills for each specialty. Your Nebraska truck accident lawyer might not have the right approach to help the OJ Simpsons of the World stay out of jail. Larry R. Demerath does have 35 years of experience in getting money out of the insurance companies and accountable parties to help injured Nebraskans through their recoveries.
Farm accidents happen to be one of his specialties. I grew up on a farm and I know about the dangers inherent in that life and also how difficult in can be to get compensation from an accountable party because workplace standards are different for farms than for other woprkplaces.
Are you Ready for a Smaller Home ?
December 20, 2007 on 6:08 pm | In Money | No CommentsI really hope that the tragic economy in the US and elsewhere will put an end the the ridiculous McMansion trend that is such a horrible waste of resources. Maybe a return to modest size dwellings can also be accompanied by an end to the often reported epidemic of obesity. Small homes that use the latest technologies can mean lower energy bills in addition to a lower mortgage payment. They might actually improve family relationships as well. Do you have a spouse or a parent or a child living with you that you have yet to see or speak to today?
I am not certain about what the ideal space for a family is, but we used to live in 900 square feet and we were happy (most of the time).
Diets up to Here
December 20, 2007 on 12:34 pm | In Internet, Health, Weight Loss, Uncategorized | 1 CommentJanuary is almost here. New Years tends to see a lot of people resolving to lose weight. Here is a long list of diets including the good, the bad and the ugly, with one notable exception. These are diets with Wikipedia entries. The short lived Kimkins entry was deleted after some tug of war editing that took place around the time that some key information was coming to light. I would not personally consider attempting to create a new page because to be honest there are members of the low carb community who would begin another cycle of less than professional editing until it got deleted again.

Will Kimkins Endure?
December 20, 2007 on 11:15 am | In Business, Health, Money, Weight Loss, Kimkins, Kimmer, Kimkins Criticism, Kimkins Diet | 2 Comments
I really do expect Kimkins.com to go away at some point, but I am not certain that it will. I know enough about the internet to know that the site metrics have a value in and of themselves. The lifetime subscription business model could come to an end and the site could remain in some form to generate advertising revenue.
Even though some advice that was dispensed by Kimkins.com runs counter to current medical standards for a safe and healthy diet, low carb eating is still a popular and viable option. I think one advantage that Heidi has is her keen understanding of her core demographic. It is actually almost scary how well she can speak to the conventions and insecurities of middle class house wives. Maybe she should become a political strategist. She would have to have a minder of some sort to look after the loose ends
Practical and Sexy Nursing Tops
December 19, 2007 on 9:23 pm | In Fashion | No CommentsNursingPJs.com sells practical Nursing Tops
that are also quite fashionable. They are offering free shipping for the Holidays. Speaking of the holidays, I visited some famous art museums recently and I noticed that that Mary nursing the baby Jesus was a common theme during the Gothic era and seemed to fall out of favor thereafter.
I am including a photo of the oldest known depiction of Jesus and Mary and also an excellent example of the subject matter from just before it became less popular.
Now that American society is inching towards a more sensible attitude about nursing babies after decades off silly prudishness, women need to have clothes that look good and are also convenient to wear when nursing. NursingPJs.com is meeting that need in style.
