Limiting Coffee Intake
December 29, 2007 on 6:08 pm | In Coffee, Health |Coffee is a friend to those of us who have to burn the midnight oil on occasion, but we all know that too much coffee is bad news for our health. How much is too much? There is a variation in sensitivity to caffeine. Some people find out that they are better off avoiding the stuff altogether.
A cup of coffee will typically contain 65-85mg of caffeine and health professionals caution against consuming more than 500-600mg. Since coffee isn’t the only source of dietary caffeine, it is important to take all your sources into account. This list of caffeine content in beverages from the Mayo Clinic says that Diet Coke has a lot more caffeine than Coke. A 12 ounce Diet Coke has 47mg of caffeine. Pregnant women should try to stay below 300mg per day. I saw some surprises on the list so you should really find out the caffeine content of any specialty drinks that you buy. ONE Starbucks Grande has more coffee than a pregnant woman should consume in a day.
